Elise Sweitzer

Elise Schweitzer’s paintings depict large-scale figurative action, and intimate abstractions of light and form. Equestrians, skydivers and party crashers populate her figurative canvases, while in her abstractions, architectural units of windows and enclosures are shadowed and illuminated by imaginary lights. She paints from memory and observation. Schweitzer is Associate Professor of Art at Hollins University. She received her MFA from Indiana University in Bloomington, a Certificate in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and a BFA from University of Pennsylvania. She lives in Roanoke, VA with her husband and their 5-year-old son Gian Luca. They love to travel together and to bake scones for breakfast.
