Philip Geiger

Philip Geiger is a renowned American Realist painter who earned a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and an MFA from Yale University School of Art. Currently retired, Geiger was a professor of art at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville for more than 30 years where he taught, mentored and influenced countless young artists. Known for what has been referred to as “lustrous light, loose brushwork and subtle color,” his work focuses on intimate glimpses into seemingly mundane moments of contemporary domestic life. His work has been reviewed in the New York Times, Art in America, ARTnews, and The New Criterion. He has exhibited at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery in New York City, and his work is in a number of prominent collections.
